Studies show that small interactions between family members, such as spending time playing, make kids feel connected.

After a divorce, parents who don’t have full custody over kids can find it hard to feel connected and keep the bond strong - they often feel isolated like they’re missing out on their child’s everyday life. A small interaction, like playtime, between parent and child can make distant relationships feel connected and show you care.

Challenge:

Create a way that parent and child can feel connected, interact, and play, even when apart, uniting them through Lego

Built Together - Written Summary

Built together starts with the Lego Touch. This new family gadget, combines Bluetooth enabled modules that have touch sensors with pre-existing Lego bracelets, allowing each person wearing it to feel close to their loved one, even if they are apart

The bracelet design includes one fore both the adult and child, which sends subtle messages to be sent between the two bracelets through a simple touch from anywhere in the world, letting the other know they are thinking of you or building their part of the lego.

This is a small gesture that helps bridge the distance between parents and children adjusting to new living situations and time apart.

The Lego Touch bracelet is part of a portable pack that includes tailored parent and child Lego sets, which pair and unlock new collaborative features on the Lego Life app.

The two Lego sets contain generic bricks that have different components to the same story. The child’s set containing the main scene and the parents set containing a simply made character that is crucial to the ending of the scene’s storyline.

On the app you can select which challenges to create, such as the stories of Rupunzel and The Three Little Pigs, giving options to update one another on the building process through chat and picture uploads.

With a customised countdown featuring on both braclet and the app, building anticipation for when they next see each other and can complete the story together.

For children traveling to different houses, the built in Duplo board within the box allows easy portability for the child to create their scene and start where they left off.

Once reunited the story can come to life, real and virtually, as the apps self-scanning feature creates a story clip of the iconic moments from when the characters connect within the story.

Built together provides a fun and easy way for parent and child to feel more connected when apart whilst adjusting to distance in the wake of a divorce.
